Eco-conciousness

Natural materials are renewable and sustainable, so we don’t deplete our resources. They’re also biodegradable and have natural enzymes that allow the natural fibers to breakdown.

According to “Microbial processes in the degradation of fibers” by P.M. Fedorak, University of Alberta:

Natural fibers like wool and cotton are broken down through biotic process. Microorganisms have evolved enzymes that attack key bonds in these natural polymers, thereby releasing monomers that can be used as carbon and energy sources for microbial growth. In contrast, microorganisms lack enzymes to break down many synthetic fibers, thus these materials persist and accumulate in the environment.

Natural latex rubber is harvested by tapping the milk of the Hevea Brasiliensis, otherwise known as the rubber tree. The trees grow in Malaysian plantations especially selected for their high-quality production. In our process to create a latex rubber bed, an injection system produces the purest natural product for mattress cores that will keep their shape. Once the solid rubber is made with this method, we’re left with a mattress core that’s supportive, yet soft in the areas we need, like shoulders and hips.

Making the rubber has the different methods, and various mixing agents. Make sure you find out when and what is going into the rubber sap to create the solid material, such as fillers or clay. The process itself is similar to baking a cake. Think of the rubber in its “raw” form as cake batter. Next you need to add oil or butter and usually an egg, to give it texture, consistency, and flavor. Our mixing ingredients are air, natural soap and vulcanization agents such as soda ash and zinc. The mixing ingredients are essential to “whip” the rubber into a frothy mixture to create a substantial and even-textured “batter”. This batter is then poured into a sheet-mold with hollow pins (think of a bunt cake pan), then baked in an oven so the high heat bonds and “cooks” the ingredients. We hope our “cake-baking” analogy helps you understand the “mixing” process of rubber, and that you contact us for more information on buying latex mattresses.
